Sedentary lifestyle in adults is defined as less than 5000 steps/day.

Low active lifestyle is defined as 5000 to 7499 steps/day

When active young people go from >10,000 steps/day to <5000 steps/day (or as low as 1500 steps/day) in a 3 to 14 days period, it results in increased insulin resistance (that can progress to type 2 diabetes), poor blood sugar (glucose) control, increased adiposity (deposition of body fat)
