Excess Visceral Fat is Unhealthy

visceral fatVisceral fat is the fat found in and around the organs in your body. Excess visceral fat is unhealthy. It can cause the production of hormones that can lead to the disruption of a bodily system called RAAS. It is the fat that predisposes us to a number of health conditions including but not limited to type 2 diabetes, elevated cholesterol, high blood pressure (hypertension), heart attack, and stroke. An approximate indicator of increased visceral fat is the size of the waist circumference. A waist circumference of more than 40 inches in men and 35 inches in females is highly predictive or suggestive of increased visceral fat, hence, increased predisposition to the above mentioned metabolic problems.
